Keyboard Frustration

detached macbook pro keyboardIt’s always something, right? Some of you may know I’ve been having problems with some of the keys on my keyboard. It wouldn’t be so frustrating if it wasn’t keys I used all the time like “t”, “g” and “b”. Of course, after taking it in to the Apple store this morning and setting up a repair ticket because they didn’t have a replacement keyboard in stock, it seems to be working correctly here. It seems like there’s a short on the board instead of it being a problem with the logic board. For some reason we didn’t get the Apple Care extended warranty. So if it’s the logic board, Apple would charge the same to replace it as to buy a new laptop.

Or I could take it to the same repair shop that I’d considered taking it to in the first place but let DH talk me out of doing.

So I’m currently sitting here typing on it and most of the time it’s working, but occasionally I have to copy existing characters to put them in place, and waiting…. until Apple calls to say they got the replacement keyboard in stock (3-5 days) before taking it back.

*twiddle*

At least I can hook up an external USB keyboard and keep working in the meantime. I just don’t want to resort to that as a long-term solution. Definitely not in the middle of the RD mentor program. Back to revising CH1.

  1. I had an old Dell (my Apple was beautiful and got a lot of petting, (a powerbook with the spiffy curvy black case, I think it was a G3, but for some reason I deleted some important software and by then apple wasn’t supporting OS9 and I couldn’t find someone to fix it so I gave it away)) but anyway–the dell was old and crappy and the keys started to stick and I think it was just the keyboard, and just the e, t and i keys. bu snc t workd lk hs, I simply got a usb like you and carried it in my bag. I got so used to using an external I bought a small portable “laptop sized” external keyboard and still carry it even though I have a new compaq. It’s nice not having my palms drag on the keys and type weird things.

I was over at ThinkGeek wondering about the projected keyboard and wondering if it worked. It’s so cool, expensive, but cool

  2. I had the hardest time moving away from 7.5 and into the modern era. I absolutely hated 9, but once I finally made the switch to OSX I was happy with it. There are still some things I miss, but man… I don’t know if I could go back now.

I saw that projected keyboard and wondered how well it would actually work. I tend to keep my hands hovered over the keyboard instead of hunt and pecking, but it didn’t seem like something that was worth the price of trying out if it didn’t work well.

And don’tcha just hate how when you take kids or electronics in to the “doctor” they’re suddenly feeling so much better? I’ve been having less issues since I took it in yesterday. Sometimes all you need is that threat, I guess.

Unfortunately, the boy’s not feeling much better and is still running temps in the low 100s. Bleah. Just high enough that I should keep him home again tomorrow. *grumble*

  3. Yay! They called today, so I can take it in tomorrow. Guess I better back everything up so I can use the desktop in the meantime. :/
