Back for a bit…

The boy hiking at Mataguay. It’s a crazy time at our house. We just spent the weekend camping with the Cub Scouts. We had mosquitoes galore, a missing piece of our grill (no fire! ok, we borrowed a stove from someone else), and a loud noisy pack across the road from us that decided to use their bullhorn and ring cow bells at 6:04 AM. Ugh.

Tomorrow, DD and I are off to Riley’s Farm with the rest of the 5th grade. We’ll spend about 4 hours on the road for this trip. At $4.21 a gallon for gas, it sucks that I’m going to have to drive myself.

DS is probably staying home from school tomorrow (again!) since he is feeling feverish, with a nasty headache and was sick on the way home from camping. Oh joy. This figures since I’ve already paid for him to go to the martial arts studio after school program for the day.

We’ve also got several end of the year concerts and programs coming up this week as well.

Then this weekend is another belt test for martial arts on Saturday and the family picnic and rain gutter regatta for the Cub Scouts on Sunday. Next Wednesday is the 5th grade promotion ceremony and Thursday the 12th is the last day of school where the 5th grade has a 3 hour pool party instead of school.

I hope to be back posting more regularly after next week!

  1. Kaige!!!!!

This weekend seems like a total blast of a romantic get-away. Bullhorns? Cow bells? No grills upon which to cook the weenies? Sick chillens?

I’m beside myself, you poor chicken.

  2. Add to that super special romantic mix an 8 man tent with two queen-sized air mattresses and two brats who won’t sleep on the same one. So DH and I claim the middle but that trench is so very special.

    And umm.. Weenies? No.

If I have to sleep on the ground I’m at least going to eat well.

Sat breakfast: small angel food bundt cakes, fresh strawberries, strawberry glaze, and whipped cream plus sausage and bacon.

Sat lunch: roast beef or chicken breast sandwiches with peaches, plums, cherries, and carrots & broccoli with dip.

Sat dinner: Chicken breasts marinated in a bleu cheese & bacon dressing, 1lb of shrimp and mac and cheese (this because of DS’s picky eating habits that include chicken nuggets or patties on the grill)

Ok. So Friday night and this morning we ate fast food because it was easier. I’d planned on getting out of town around 4pm and it was 6 before we pulled out of the driveway. At least we missed some nasty traffic that way.

  3. lol, sleeping in the trench. (at least you were close together!) And the food is good. Kids always, always always, get sick, throw up or don’t want to go to already paid for activities. It’s the way of the world, and very mysterious.

    Traffic is bad. 🙁

are chicken breasts in blue cheese any good, I’d have thought you’d think italian dressing?

  4. Yep, we do the Italian dressing thing too. We do a lot of “dump chicken” at our house and it works great for camping too. I’ve been known to dump all sorts of stuff in the ziploc back to put with the chicken breasts to freeze. Some of our favorites for the oven or grill include:

    BBQ Sauce
    Italian Dressing
Ranch Dressing with minced garlic and pepper
Bleu Cheese Dressing with Bacon (a store brand dressing I found)
    Teriyaki with sesame seeds
Hawaiian and/or Sweet & Sour with crushed pineapple

  5. I’m always amazed how you balance being a mom and wife with writing and learning craft. You mom-ladies so impress me!

  6. Hee, hee, hee. You are me…and what my ex used to call a “Winsor Hotel” campee.

I can’t help that I yelp at spiders, bees and mosquitos.

(I can’t believe you didn’t do a TT. But I’m proud of you nonetheless, FWIW.)

    Hee, hee.
