2012 Photo Challenge: Week 5

Five weeks into the new year and this project. This week I found I kept putting off taking photos until it was too late and I didn’t have time/energy to make it come out like I wanted. Note to self, that doesn’t work as well. I also thought of a few different types of photographs I’d like to play with in the future that center on lighting like the black and white lamp below. Can I just saw how pleasantly surprised I was by how that one came out?

I don’t usually do a lot of post-processing on my photos, but the clouds didn’t pop like I wanted and the mandolin needed something, anything to see if I could salvage it at that hour. I also figured out the time on my camera was off by an hour, so that’s fixed. I have also been playing with more manual settings, so finding the nice shot that works for me is getting harder. I have to take a few more in order to make sure I get it too.

2012 Photo Challenge: Week 4

And we’re wrapping up the fourth week of our 365 Photo Challenge. Where has January gone?

Definitely feeling the creative pressure, so there are a few more experimental shots. I was feeling the time crunch so didn’t get as far in trying a kazillion different shots of the same thing except on Monday when it rained. I think I burned through over 300 frames trying to catch a nice raindrop. I am feeling a bit more adventurous with different settings on the camera as well. I was looking at a series of posts on the basics of SLR and attempted to practice a bit with manual settings as well. Not sure any made it into the final shots for the week though.

2012 Photo Challenge: Week 3

In some ways it’s hard to believe it’s already the third week of our 365 Photo Challenge.

There have been a few days when I’ve wondered WHY I signed up for this, but I haven’t really had problems with finding a picture to take, even if I resort to my iPhone’s camera. I’ve noticed I’m starting to look closer at items or think about what kind of artsy type photo I can do that would be different and interesting. These are probably good things in the long run. What I need to do is find a camera workshop and run through the lessons.

2012 Photo Challenge: Week 2

This is the second week of our 365 Photo Challenge. Still clicking right along.

One thing I’ve noticed, is that I still feel like I have my old camera in my hand. I’m stingy with “film” and I keep trying to advance the film with my thumb after I push the shutter button. I realized this after being surprised by taking over 80 shots at the park Thursday afternoon.

2012 Photo Challenge: Week 1

As you may know I got a new digital SLR camera for my birthday last year. I never “properly” learned to use all the features on the one I got for high school graduation and always relied on luck and instinct.

I’ve made it a goal this year (along with two other members of my accountability group) to do a 365 Photo Challenge. How did I let them talk me into this on a Leap year? So far, so good though.
